The Poor Will Always Be Here - Solomon King (Africa's #1 Christian Financial Advisor

One major reason why i chose to be a financial advisor is the fact that, i’d be solving a vital need for people; money! Everyone wants to be well-off. We all want to have enough money so that we never have to worry about money again. People would like to make a high income, get out of debt, have enough money saved up in the bank and have the ability to do the things they really want without being scared of how much it’ll cost. That’s called financial independence.
Walking these paths though, I have sadly realized that not everyone would achieve financial independence. Like the Master said, ” ..the poor you’d always have with you. Making money is simple but very demanding. Its not an all comers game. Been wealthy is a good dream though… but not everyone would get there…. And here’s why:
Unbelief
Many people dont believe they can actually be rich legitimately. Their minds cannot accept it. They dont realize and hence, dont accept that it’s possible for them. The average person has grown up in a family where he has never met or known anyone who was wealthy. The only example that comes close is a politician relative or someone whose source of wealth is not known. He just hammered suddenly.
The poverty in our clime is so prevalent, getting basic needs met would just be fine. People have no reference group or social circle outside of work that potray wealth. There are few genuine role models who are wealthy, so the concept of doing well financially feels like a pipe dream. Truth is, if your mind cannot accept it, you pocket can’t get it. You need to embrace the fact that you can live a life where your needs are totally covered and you can do more with money.
Indecision
Another reason that people don’t become wealthy is that they never decide to. Even if a person reads a book, attends a lecture, or associates with people who are financially successful, nothing changes until he makes a decision to do something different.
I have been a teacher for a while now and i have realized that there are more hearers and talkers than doers of the word. Even if it occurs to a person that he could become wealthy if he just did certain things in a specific way, if he doesn’t decide to take the first step, he ends up staying as he is. They mean to, intend to, and they hope to and they’re going to, someday. They wish and hope and pray that they will make a lot of money, but they never do. And that’s truly pathetic.
Act on what you know. Go out there and sell. Money won’t come until you do something different.
The Later Syndrome
People don’t become wealthy because they want to do it later. They always have a reason , a great excuse why it should done at another time. People always have a good reason not to begin doing what they know they need to do to achieve financial independence. They have a good reason to save later, they’d follow through with the budget next month and take up insurance when that bonus comes at year end. There always seems to be a reason to procrastinate.
As a result, they keep putting it off, month by month, year by year, until it’s too late. For what its worth, time is a crucial element in the money equation. There’s usually not enough time. The best time to start out was yesterday. The next best time is now. Do it now, not later or tomorrow. Call the bank, place the standing order, start to create wealth, now.
Spendititis
The only education a lot of people have about money is how to spend it. We spend, spend and spend. In Africa, there’s a proverb that says “all money is to be spent, whether yours or another’s”. As such, the great majority of people have an irresistible temptation to spend every single dime they make and whatever else they can borrow or buy on credit. That’s the fast track recipe for poverty.
If you cannot delay gratification, and discipline yourself to refrain from spending everything you make, you cannot become wealthy. If you cannot practice budgeting as a lifelong habit, it will be impossible for you to achieve financial independence.
Short-sightedness
Several people never look beyond the short-term immediate future. They dont like long-term and therefore can’t plan futuristically. They think now and spend now. Their emotions and proclivities dictates their financial decisions. They dont do very well as a result.
Wealth building requires a long time perspective. Think 20, 30 years and even generations ahead. An example of long time perspective as told by motivation doyen Brian Tracy, is the common habit of upper class families in England to register their children at Oxford or Cambridge as soon as the child is born, even though he or she will not be attending for eighteen or nineteen years. This is long time perspective in action.
The young couple that begins putting $50 dollars a month aside in a scholarship fund so that their newborn child can go to the college or university of his or her choice is a couple with long time perspective. They are willing to sacrifice in the short term to assure better results and outcomes in the long term. People with long time perspective almost invariably move up economically in the course of their lifetimes.
So, there you have it. No matter how hard we try, some folks cannot get beyond these blocks. Are you one of them?
